RETRACE Hospitality signed up to Tourism Declares, a global coalition that supports tourism-related businesses, organisations and individuals in declaring a climate emergency.

By declaring, we pledge to take purposeful action to reduce carbon emissions as per advice from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

RETRACE Hospitality commits to the following actions:

1. Develop a plan

Develop a ‘Climate Action Plan’ which sets out our intentions to support our partners to actively and perpetually reduce their carbon emissions. Read our Climate Action Plan here.

2. Share our declaration and progress

Share this initial public declaration and updates of our progress;

3. Cut carbon emissions

Accept current IPCC advice stating the need to cut global carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030. We will ensure our ‘Climate Action Plan’ represents actions designed to achieve this, through each hospitality investment and development that we advise, conceptualise, facilitate or support;

4. Work together

As the first Sri Lankan signatory, we pledge to rally more Sri Lankan tourism players to declare. We encourage our collaborators, clients and partners to make the same declaration;

5. Advocate for change

Recognise and advocate the need for system change across the industry, to accelerate a just transition towards carbon-free travel, tourism and hospitality.

Why?

The goal of this declaration is to build a broad network in the tourism industry with destinations, tour operators, DMC, accommodation providers, tourism organisations, travel agents, developers, investors and consultants who get involved to mitigate any harmful impact tourism may have on our environment.

Watch this space as the RETRACE™ Hospitality ‘Climate Action Plan’ takes shape in the coming weeks.

“Tourism Declares advocates for the urgent changes needed to ensure the decarbonisation of tourism is as fast and fair as possible.”
